Our controversial production was one of the most talked about shows at FEATS 2011 in Geneva last may, and was awarded with a prize for best set design.
Jack and Algernon, two young pillars of society, are both avoiding the duties and responsibilities of Victorian social life. By inventing friends and brothers they try to escape from boredom and tedious obligations. Will they succeed in their pursuit of love and freedom? Or will they find defeat in marriage and respectability?
The play mocks Victorian society, but does not attack it. To Wilde social conventions were a farce, but a necessary farce: too important to be taken seriously.
Het Homerostheater is an experienced Dutch theatre company that performs stage classics in their original language. Previous productions include Antigone in ancient Greek, Le Misanthrope (Molière) in French, Mutter Courage (Brecht) in German, The Hothouse, One for the Road (Pinter), Waiting for Godot (Beckett) and The Pillowman (Martin McDonagh) in English.

Voorstelling boeken
Sinds jaar en dag speelt Het Homerostheater uitdagend literair theater op verschillende scholen in het land. Of het nu Mariken van Nieumeghen in het Middelnederlands betreft, 18e eeuws maskerspel, Pinter, Beckett of moderner Engelstalig repertoire - Het Homerostheater speelt altijd graag voor scholieren. De interesse en open blik van leerlingen geeft ons steeds weer de mogelijkheid ze oprecht te verbazen met de parels van de dramatische literatuur. We zijn altijd zeer bereid tot een Q&A achteraf, waarbij spelers en regisseur stevig over hun keuzes aan de tand kunnen worden gevoeld. In veel gevallen wordt er door de leerlingen verrassende vragen gesteld. De impact hiervan is wel groter als de tekst van te voren door de docenten is doorgenomen.
De prijs van een voorstelling is rond de 1250 euro ex btw, afhankelijk van de reiskosten.
The Importance of Being Earnest is geschikt voor alle leerlingen uit de bovenbouw van HAVO en VWO en voor leerlingen met een extra leergang in het Engels.
